All 25 students of the Class of 2019 graduated Friday, June 28, in Ahliah 102nd Commencement Ceremony.

Ahliah School campus was filled with guests from parents, family and friends to proud teachers and staff, Ahliah trustees, alumni and friends, all joined together to celebrate Ahliah Class 2019.

Ahliah had the honor in welcoming Dr. Fadlo Khuri, President of the American University of Beirut, as the Commencement Speaker.

Dr. Khuri, whose mother, Ms. Soumaya Makdisi Khuri, is a distinguished Ahliah alumna, gave a motivating and inspiring speech to the graduates, and described their high school graduation as being “on the cusp of your adult life”.

Dr. Khuri then highlighted the strong AUB Ahliah connections dating back to the early 20th century, noted that “AUB’s first female academic deans are Ahliah graduates: former Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences Huda Zuraykand former Dean of Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences Nahla Hwalla”. Dr. Khuri also mentioned many of Ahliah’s distinguished alumni who went on to study at the AUB.

Dr. Khuri then addressed the graduates and urged them to have confidence in their abilities, take risks, work hard, and enjoy every aspect of their journey and “never surrender to the idea that our fates are fully foretold”. He finally advised them to “never lose sight of the fact that you may become the next great artist, great physician, or great educator”.

Student Speakers this year were Mariam Abdallah who gave her speech in Arabic, Abdallah Wahidi in English and SedraHariri in French.

This year’s Ahliah Commencement included another special element to it. The Ahliah School Choir performed 4 songs to our graduates, one of which was written by the Lebanese poet Ibrahim Mounzer and used to be sung by Ahliah graduates during the 1930’s and 1940’s. The Choir also closed the ceremony with the Ahliah School Anthem who were joined by alumni, friends, faculty and staff.

We would like to congratulate all our graduates and wish them the best of luck and a bright future ahead. And lastly, keep the Ahliah mission, take responsibility, be an active citizen engaged in local, regional, and global issues.
